What if no one is available at the time the package is delivered?
We will try and find a responsible individual or take it to the department office. There are
exceptions if the item is perishable:

  • Perishables received prior to 3 p.m. will be delivered by special courier between 3 and 4 p.m. the same day.

What if packages are damaged?
Material received in a damaged condition must be reported immediately to the damage and claims section of Stores. In order to be considered, concealed damage must be reported to the freight carriers within 15 days of the date received by Michigan State University. Nothing from the package can be removed until it is inspected or a determination made for return or replacement. Damage valued at less than $25 cannot be processed.

Once a claim has been initiated, Stores will contact the department regarding responsibility
for payment of invoices or for handling of credits.

What about shipments sent freight collect?
Stores has accounts with all major shippers and will bill your departmental account upon delivery.
