SHIPPING OPTIONS
Departments may handle their own shipments or utilize services offered by Logistics. Questions regarding the shipment of packages should be directed to Brian Estee at (517) 884-6203.
Most campus departments take advantage of the wide range of services offered by the Traffic Office. Centralizing the university's shipping function reduces the total cost through timesaving, reduced certification costs, and negotiated discount rates. University departments shipping hazardous materials are strongly encouraged to use the services provided by Logistics.
Michigan State University Departments Have Two Options When Shipping Material.
Ship Items Yourself
Departments may wish to take advantage of the option of shipping directly from their location. UPS, Federal Express, and DHL are the most commonly used carriers that offer a pickup service. The university has established accounts with each of these carriers. The university customer account number must be used to receive the university rate. To obtain the proper account number, call
(517) 884-6083.
Your departmental account number is required for billing purposes and can also be used to aid in tracking your package. This number should be noted in the reference number area of the shipping document.
Logistics carries preprinted airbills that can be obtained, free of charge, by calling (517) 884-6083.
Prepaid Airborne Express envelopes are also available from our stockroom, stock number 17005800 (12" x 16"). When using a prepaid Airborne Express envelope, an airbill is not required.
When shipping your own packages, you are responsible for:
- Proper packing and addressing
- Complete and accurate documentation
- Ensuring that hazardous materials are prepared and comply to all domestic and international regulations (hazardous material shipments should be handled by Logistics).
- Referencing shipment to an internal university account
