Why should I buy from University Stores?
By consolidating the University buying power, Stores is able to obtain the lowest pricing available from suppliers. This allows University Stores to pass along savings to our customers. Along with high quality products, customers receive free delivery, consolidated billing, no-hassle returns and support documentation upon request. Occasionally prices will be beaten by a store advertising a "loss leader." However, prices at University Stores remain as low as possible.
How do I place an order with University Stores?
Orders can be placed in the following ways:
- Place telephone orders by dialing (517)884-6241.
- Fax a completed Stores Stock Requisition Form to (517) 355-8308.
- Authorized Web Requisitioners may submit orders via the Web.
- Place orders at the Service Counter between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
For all orders, the following information must be provided:
- department name
- department number
- account number
- delivery address
- stock number
- quantity
Where is Stores located?
Stores is located on the south side of Service Road, at 101 Angell Building (approximately one block east of Harrison Road).
Where is the customer service counter located?
The customer service counter is located at 114 Angell Building (east of the loading docks). Look for the double doors with the green awning.

What products does Stores stock?
Stores currently stocks over 5,000 items. Product lines include office, scientific, health care, and industrial products ranging from light bulbs to Band-Aids. For a complete listing, please use the Stores catalog.
I have a question concerning a Stores product; whom can I contact?
You may find the answer to your question in the Stores catalog. University Stores strives toward continuous upgrades and has implemented a "step search" feature. By using the item keyword search, you will find it easy to locate the item you are looking for. The online catalog offers information such as product description, manufacturer name and number, pricing, and stock quantity. If you need additional information, you may contact University Stores directly.
I am interested in an item that Stores does not stock. How can I get this item and what can I do to have this item added to Stores inventory?
You can place an order for an item that Stores does not stock through Non-Stock Orders. If you would like an item added to stock, you can make your request using the "New Stock Consideration Request" form.
When I order an item and I am told it is on back order, how long can I expect to wait?
Back orders take approximately three to seven working days and are filled immediately upon receipt of stock. If the situation is urgent, please contact Stores at 355-1700 for other purchasing options.
What is the difference between Food Stores and University Stores?
University Stores supplies the University with office, scientific, health care, and industrial supplies. Food Stores carries food for the residence halls. Food Stores is part of Housing and Food Services. University Stores has partnered with Food Stores to provide cups, napkins, plates, and breakroom supplies.
How do I receive my order?
- On-the-spot purchase - Placing and receiving your order at the customer service counter between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Two hour pickup - Telephoning your order to the order desk at 884-6241 and picking up your order after two hours.
- Stores delivery - Telephoning, Web requisitioning, faxing, or sending (via Campus Mail) your order to Stores for delivery within 1-2 days.
How can I check the status of my order?
If you are using the Web requisitioning system, the status can be checked online. On the home page, simply click on Check Order Status. Customers can also call 355-1700.
What are the requirements for placing stock orders?
University purchases - require a valid MSU account number.
Two hour pickup orders - may be called in between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and must meet the following requirements:
- Two business hours are needed to process an order.
- Orders must be picked up by the customer.
- If orders are not picked up by closing of the next business day, the department will be notified.
For departments purchasing federally regulated items such as alcohol and freon from the service counter, MSU ID is required.

May I purchase items from University Stores for home use?
Yes, with the exception of chemicals and needles. Personal use prices are listed in the catalog. All personal use items must be picked up from the service counter.
